The Hand Stripping Maintenance Experience
Keep the texture. Keep the colour. Keep the character.
Specialist one-to-one maintenance for suitable wire-coated dogs already established on a regular hand-stripping schedule.
Hand stripping carefully removes suitable dead, ready-to-release coat by hand rather than routinely clipping it away, helping to maintain the distinctive texture, colour and natural character of the wire coat.
Beautiful wire coats are built through consistency.
Each maintenance appointment works with your dog’s existing coat and natural growth, helping us maintain it consistently rather than repeatedly starting again.
New to Hand Stripping?
Start with a professional coat consultation.
Not every wire coat — or every stage of coat growth — is automatically suitable for hand stripping.
If your dog is new to Bow Wows Dublin, hasn’t been hand stripped previously, or you’re unsure whether their coat is suitable, the first step is a Hand Stripping Consultation.
We’ll assess their coat, previous grooming history and current condition, talk you through what we find and recommend the most appropriate next step.
No assumptions. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just honest professional advice based on the dog in front of us.
Hand stripping isn’t a one-off groom. It’s ongoing coat care.
The best results are built over time.
Regular maintenance allows us to work with your dog’s natural coat cycle, removing suitable coat when it is ready and maintaining the texture, colour and character that make wire coats so distinctive.
Rather than waiting until the coat needs significant correction, we stay ahead of it — maintaining it consistently from one appointment to the next.
To preserve coat integrity and achieve the best results,
sessions should be done at least once a month.
When the coat is overgrown and pulled for the first time, you may notice temporary transparency or mild redness — signs that the coat was removed correctly, not trimmed or damaged.
